A Typical Finnish SaunaActivities

Finland is the great outdoors - miles and miles of unbroken wilderness provide a beautiful backdrop to a wealth of activities.

In the spring, summer and autumn hiking through the forested national parks is a delight, with an abundance of wild strawberries, rasberries, blueberries and other forest berries later in the year. Those in search of mushrooms are in for a treat.

For watersports enthusiasts, Finland's lakes and sea provide the opportunity for sailing, waterskiing, rowing, fishing, kayaking and skating when the ice comes.

The winter is a delight for those who enjoy skiing, both cross-country and downhill. The miles of wilderness also mean husky dog safaris staying in outlying huts and more gentle reindeer sleigh rides.

On visiting Finland, you must make sure you relax in the traditional sauna. Nearly all of the cottages featured on the Freerange holiday website include saunas - some will even be wood fired, which adds a fantastic aroma to the experience, and makes you really feel part of traditional Finnish life.
